Woohoo! Today we are officially halfway through our Camino, both in days and distance. The writing on the coke machine reads, Santiago 419 k so it must be true.
Fromista yesterday was forgetable. The Albergue was very pretty and there was a beautiful 10th century church but the hosts were abrupt and posted too many rules throughout the building.
We walked 20 k today and the sunrise was beautiful but the walk was tedious. We were on the same road the entire day. There was nothing but wheat fields as far as the eye could see.
We’ve learned that it’s really all about the people so today we’really staying with nuns. So far so good, they are very nice and we don’t have to sleep in bunk beds tonight (but we do have to clean the erasers and wipe down the blackboard).
CONGRATULATIONS on your half way, you’re
doing great. I like your room, nice and airy,
hope you sleep well… you’re in good company.
Keep up the good work….. love you
Hi Lida,
Thank you!
We attended mass tonight and they had a beautiful Pilgrim blessing so we feel ready for the next 2 days. We won’t have wifi for a couple days but will post again when we can.
Love you too,
Beth
Beth, I remain transfixed by what you and Tom are doing. I remind you, my time in Santiago was by luxury cruise ship and motor coach! But your efforts will be worth the challenge as the conclusion is a stunning cathedral in a charmingly historic town. I recall my time there like it was yesterday, not several years. I showed Mom your blog and she was very enthusiastic about your pilgrimage wondering aloud why I, too, did not engage in a “camino”. That was met by derisive laughter on my part! Anyway, I’ll check on you in a few days. Push on and to paraphrase newspaper publisher, Horace Greeley, “Go west, young man (woman), go west!”. ADD
P.S.: I had a fantastic summer at the beach. Enhanced retirement was one of the best decisions I ever made!
Hi Anthony,
Thank you for the good wishes and for letting me know how you’re doing. We have 2 tough days ahead and really appreciate the encouragement.
Beth
wondering if you run into any Trump fans over there. i can send you your Trump 2016 t-shirts!
kidding aside, i look forward to reading this every day.
Hi Scott,
We haven’t met any Trump fans (to my knowledge). There was one odd man from New Mexico who was probably in the Trump
camp. Most Europeans are very concerned about him. I did learn that we are very ignorant to international politics/news and Europeans are much more aware of what’s going on outside their own boarders.
